UK Box Office 28 -31 May

The extended weekend brought fortunes to four girls from The Big Apple: nearly £7.5 million for a sequel with no huge stars based on a TV show...SEX AND THE CITY 2 is the only product out there for the female market, which is truly under served. And before you accuse me of being sexist, I can tell you that 99% of the audience at our cinema were women. Other new entries included Disney's THE TOOTH FAIRY, THE LOSERS (both of which did negligible business) and SPACE CHIMPS 2 3-D which I wasn't even aware was coming out. Goes to show you the strength of the 3D marketplace right now that even this can crack the Top 10.

1- SEX AND THE CITY 2 (£7,435,854)
2- STREETDANCE 3-D (£2,363,568)
3- PRINCE OF PERSIA (£2,058,642)
4- ROBIN HOOD (£1,972,835)
5- THE TOOTH FAIRY (£1,028,581)
6- IRON MAN 2 (£680,976)
7- SPACE CHIMPS 2 (£589,719)
8- THE LOSERS (£518,066)
9- BAD LIEUTENANT (£236,682)
10- FOUR LIONS (£224,099)

  1. All I can say is-what the f... were we older women fighting for in the 60s & 70s-the right to be exploited as consumers?A question, that judging by the younger women I meet(including my own daughter)doesn't even enter their consciousness. But,hey,it's only a film(even though it enters the zeitgeist0

  2. Yeah, it's a pretty woeful "Top" Ten! However... Received my June/July copy of your brochure this morning and my spirits were lifted! After two weeks of SATC2, you are redeeming yourself with Greenberg, The Killer Inside Me, the new Woody Allen, Tetro, Inception (Digitally Presented this time, Mr. Nolan?) and a re-issue of Breathless for my Birthday Movie! THIS IS WHAT YOU DO SO WELL!?!
As Uncle Monty said to Marwood: "I'm preparing myself to forgive you..."
Seriously, though, it must be good to hear your tills ringing and to get bums on seats - despite the quality of the film in question!
